The Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN) started in Nigeria in the 1970s.
APHPN is a professional association made up of disciplinary Public Health/Community Health Physicians in Nigeria, holding various positions in the LGAs, state ministries, federal ministries, parastatals, universities, teaching hospitals,
international agencies, NGOs, research institutes and private medical practice.The Association is open to all registered Medical and Dental Practitioners in Nigeria with recognized postgraduate qualification in Public Health or Community Medicine. In addition, Medical Officers of Health (MOH) in the local government
areas are members of the association.
Aims and Objectives
1. To promote Public Health, Community Medicine and Allied Medicine.
2. To maintain the honour and interest of the health profession.
3. To promote improvement in the practice, training and research in Public
Health and Community Medicine.
4. To promote improvement in the health of the Public in Nigeria.
5. To consider and express its views on all proposed legislation and
development plans affecting Public Health, Community Medicine, Medical and Dental Profession.
APHPN has a Board of Trustee (BOT) made up of five members. The day to day running of the association is coordinated by the national officers. The national officers and the Chairmen and Secretaries of the state branches constitute the National Executive Council (NEC).
The association is fully registered with the Corporate Affairs commission (CAC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In addition to the health promoting activities by state branches of the association in their respective states, members of the association gather to share ideas and scientific information in an annual conference that has themes depending on the prevailing health situation in the country.
